The Khond, endowed with a variety of cultural traditions, create occasional artworks imbibing spiritual ideals and value systems, and components of nature.
The collective journey of four men on a boat, representing not only the practical use of transportation over water but also the journey of life itself. The boat represents transportation, which is an essential aspect of life for the Khond tribe; hence it symbolizes both the physical journey and the spiritual journey that the entire community embarks on together. The four men move in synchronization and harmony as one to steer the boat down the river, showing how the entire tribe emphasizes collective action and a spirit of mutual aid throughout every aspect of life. The Khond tend to place high value on working toward a common end by gathering as a community, facing challenges, and celebrating victories-whether during the performance of rituals or ceremonies or in their daily survival.
This sculpture goes on to depict tribal knowledge of traditional arts in such minute details, which then would tell the emotions of the persons, their body postures, and the precisions of working on the boat. Indeed, local material is a testimony to the working skill of the Khond artisans as much as their longing concrete and, above all, spiritual, to keep up their cultural heritage. It also speaks a lot to the so-called collective spirit that defines the Khond people as a way of life: 'Journey of Unity'.
