This ancient loom of the Khasi shows an extraordinary indigenous mechanism and craftsmanship in spinning and weaving textiles. This wooden apparatus is made of two pointed wooden poles, one inserted into another at varying angles, thus forming a functional part of a traditional loom. The first pole has a square base for stability, with a small wooden knob attached at the base, allowing the loom to grip or connect certain moving parts of the frame. The acute angle of one pole leaning against the other hints that it must have been used to hold the threads during weaving or serviceable for the tensioning of the warp yarns.

In Khasi culture, weaving is performed exclusively by women and imbued with both social and economic value. Such tools have been employed in the construction of Jainsem, a traditional draped garment worn by Khasi women, and other articles of various functions.
