The Kalangi has immense cultural connotation among the Binjhal people. It is not just a piece of ornamentation but an object that defines and embodies identity and tradition. The ornament is usually worn during festivals and cultural gatherings as part of the actual dance costume. The kind and elaborate craftsmanship involved in making the Kalangi testify to how closely the Binjhal tribe is to nature and their ability in art through using natural things. For the Binjhal, as with many other traditional tribal ornaments, this is more than an ornament; it is very much a part of their cultural heritage, its history, and a living tradition for the next generation.
