Kagi Dangeri: Bamboo Basket
description
Kagi-Dangeri is a bamboo basket of cultural significance made by Khond Tribes of Odisha, which is used commonly to serve meals to guests. This basket, made from split bamboo woven together with care, expresses functional skill set and deep-rooted customs concerning tribe hospitality.
Flat and almost square with four corners and a circular opening, the Kagi-Dangeri looks more like a shallow yet beautiful tray that is practical for serving food items at community feasts, rituals, and family gatherings. The square base allows-placement on the ground or floor mats without any rolling, whereas food offerings become easier to reach through the circular mouthway. In Khond traditions, hospitality is sacred, and the whole act of serving food to guests is a demonstration of respect and kinship. The Kagi-Dangeri occupies that space well, frequently used to serve cooked rice, roots, fruits, and other local specialties on occasions of celebration or observance.
