short description
The Ka Ryntichniarm Kywai is a traditional bamboo tool used by the Khasi Tribe of Meghalaya that is best known for its exquisite bamboo cane handiwork. The very object is in the Indian Museum, Kolkata, which further illustrates how the Khasi have adapted and worked indigenous techniques in transforming natural resources into practical tools. The ripe end of this bamboo strip is forked, probably to hold or secure another piece during the weaving or fastening process. The other end is rather meager and has a notch, which is tightly wound by a twisted cane strap—possibly to provide grip or act as a fastening mechanism. A smaller piece of bamboo is inserted into the forked end and tied down with plain cane strap interwoven inside, demonstrating the traditional way of binding among the Khasi community.

Such tools were common in agricultural, basketry, or everyday work-related activities that contributed to sustainable and eco-friendly practices of the region. The wonderful design of these tools really reflects the deep understanding of the Khoro people towards nature, specifically bamboo and cane.
