Dried leaves cover the inner surface in large pieces in the traditional way to provide another layer of protection and a limited shielding effect on the items contained inside. These leaves, of course, have much do with the traditionally sustainable use of natural resources for the Khasi tribe and are thus selected and integrated into the design.
For stability and preventing wearing out, the mouth part of the basket is also covered with a plaited cane strap. This was that changed into softness and strength. The Hexagonal Shaped Basket is used every day in the community of the Khasi for a thousand things: storing food and other household items in kitchens, among other uses. This brief account captures some aspects of the unique culture of this tribe; it is a complete storehouse of how they understand weaving natural materials into useful tools.
