The Chunia Kenedy Malias tribe not only prefers brass for its sheen and bright color but also because it withstands daily use while remaining very beautiful. The thickness of the string adds robustness to the necklace, as do the cotton threads imbedded into the string, lastly giving a nice contrasting feel to the necklace against the metallic shine of the brass beads. It is also designed to ensure that the necklace is fastened well when worn. During major festivals, rituals, and public gatherings, Gotinga is worn by the women of the Chunia Kenedy Malias tribe. It acts as an accessory and a symbol of cultural identity in demonstrating the tribe's great artistic heritage vis-a-vis their traditional practices.
