short description
The Khasis are the indigenous communities of Meghalaya and part of Northeast India. Historically, they have been very much skilled in handicrafts especially agricultural implements which they use in their daily works in the farm. This tool, among many, is an odd tool for farming but is extensively used for all sorts of tillage, land clearing, and weeding activities. It has a long tang for its iron, flattened-bladed tool to ensure strength and ease in handling. The long blade of this tool is triangular in shape with a rounded tip so that the rounded part is better able to slide over the soil. This rounded tip also helps prevent the tool from hanging in the soil and is highly effective for continuous, unimpeded use. The cutting edges are convexly and bluntly positioned on both sides of the blade. With this, multiple functions are performed, from cutting trees and plants through root, weed, and grass through soil with a minimum disturbance.

Its tang is longer than the blade; it is designed to insert into the wooden handle to let the user manipulate the tool better and exert more force during agricultural use. The similar design of the tang and blade makes this tang very tight so that the blade does not loosen during use. It can be safely said that this tool has all features of an excellent creation, a reflection of the ingenuity of the Khasi race in developing practical, durable tools that are meant for their agricultural needs. Besides, it is the manifestation of their knowledge of metalwork and their ever-deep immersion in the land and sustainable farming practices.
