short description
The Enlightened Journey of Buddha is a print from an original painting done in Thailand, depicting one of the deep scenes of the life of the Buddha portrayed onto the walls of a temple. The painting is highly Khampti-based, thus displaying some serious spiritual connection of the tribe to Buddhism and the teachings of the Buddha. It is perceived that the Khampti tribe is located primarily in the northeastern parts of India, mostly Arunachal Pradesh, and has close historical and cultural ties to Southeast Asia in general, Thailand specifically, where Buddhism has entered the functions of the Khampti tribe's religious and cultural practices.
Soon after, the painting represents the key events depicted in the life of the Buddha: birth, enlightenment, teaching, and final nirvana, hence pedestrianizing on these events the spiritual odyssey as envisaged by him. Church walls give a tight framing of blazing Buddhist events in sharp contrasting colors decorated with traditional designs communicating not merely subjects of devotion but also artistic skills of the Khampti tribe.
This print artifact possesses spiritual and cultural value encapsulating the understanding of Buddhist cosmology by the Khamptis along with their role in the conservation of such teachings within their own society. Khamptis are very attached to the life of Buddha as the basis of their Buddhist artistic tradition. While it is a print and at best only fairly representative of the original murals, it serves as a historical witness to an understanding of tribal cultural heritage. This helps highlight how Khampti Buddhism views Enlightenment and integrates the teachings of Buddha into daily life.
