short description
The Angami Naga community residing in the Kohima district of Nagaland is recognized for its fine skills, the tools and implements being all made out of materials from nature. Usually, their household items are combined with a utilitarian purpose, natural aesthetics, and the representation of a culture. One such article is the cylindrical wooden cup which shows beautiful example works making by the tribe out of wood and cane. This huge cup is cylindrical and made from a single piece of wood with a deep brown color-surface finish, either as naturally developed or by other traditional methods of staining. The contours taper gently from the broad opening to the base, which is flat and round, making it bottom heavy and easily managed in handling. The features of the cup are the small handle attached to its side made out of twisted and woven cane strips; this not only increases the beauty of the cup, but also makes it the result of Angami people's skill in using local, sustainable materials.

It is used to drink traditional drinks like rice beer (zutho) or herbal concoctions, and is used mainly during communal functions, celebrations, or house parties. It is both functional and ceremonial in purpose, and is regularly present for traditional feasts and hospitality traditions. The amazing design of wood and cane, makes the cup a measure of craftsmanship, earthly consideration, and cultural identity in the Angami Naga tribe. Every cup is a hand-made artifact that speaks of daily utility with an invigorating artistic flavor in the life of the tribe.
