A conical bamboo basket
description
The rim of the basket is encircled with spiral decorative designs, which depict the aesthetic sensibility of the tribe and their inclination for details even in mundane and utilitarian objects. Four cane rods were stuck in the woven bamboo structure to converge it at the base of the basket, enclosing it in a supportive framework. It provides reinforcement and extra durability and strength so that the basket may carry substantial weight while being transported.
This is what we call the combination of function and form as understood by the Angami who are Nature people and avail the natural resources from bamboo and cane to make their own tools. This shape also ensures balance when carried on the back, and it avoids spillage during the transportation of grains.
