It consists of small-sized wooden puppets, intricately carved by the Santhal craftsmen. These puppets are given lifeby a complicated lever mechanism having the limbs attached to sticks, which connect with a central cord under the command of a puppet master. Movement of puppets is surprisingly accurate and fluid, ensuring a very captivating performance.

description
The puppets are generally placed on a portable stage with props to improve the theatrical effect, the total height of which along with its canopy is about six feet. The Chadar Badar promises to be an entertaining science for the audience because it has significant two parts: the dhera and the charkha. Charkha is the revolving stage whereby the puppets can perform in dynamic and enriched style before the audience. This art form is generally performed on festive occasions of the Santhal, serving the purpose of storytelling and cultural expression.
Chadar Badar, by its very name, denotes that the tales of the rich folklore, myths, and traditions of the Santhal tribe must be saved for posterity through this art.
