The moment you lay eyes on the top of the helmet, it strikes you that a riot of color hits you! This colorful hair does not only give the helmet showy looks, but it is also symbolic. In Naga tribal art, animal hair is seen as a metaphor for strength, protection, and the status of a warrior. Such helmets are used during ceremonies of great importance in Naga culture, rather often worn by warriors during tribal festivals or during major rites of passage. The design of the helmets is functional yet artistic, signifying tribal closeness to nature and traditional artwork.
