short description
The leaves hanging in bunches indicate their use as decoration, made of baskets which have been traditionally crafted by the Naga tribe, one of the indigenous faces of northeastern India particularly Nagaland. Naga is the very expression of this beautiful culture, tradition, and fine workmanship. This particular basket, which is used in an everyday context as well as a ceremonial one, gives life to the relationship of the tribe with nature and their distinct tradition of artistry. The conical-shaped basket is made out of a flexible cane with a bamboo strip. It has a circular mouth for easy access in storing and carrying different items. There is a heavy cane handle on the body of the basket for easy carrying. This material is light, durable, and suitable for carrying food, gathering crops, and various traditional rituals.

The next striking feature of this basket is something decorative on the outer surface. Decorated with three skulls, a motif very much prevalent in Naga culture for the symbolism of bravery, ancestral lineage, or war-based rites. A bunch of leaves highlighted the deep connection of the Naga tribe with nature and their use of natural resources in crafts. The decorated basket is a design meant for functionality; the sort of cultural artifact this basket is embodies the rich traditions and artistic implications of the Naga tribe. Maintaining this design almost serves as an link to their ancestral practices which are now upheld as a great emblem of Naga craftsmanship.
