short description
The Naga shields have long been synonymous with the Naga tribe, which uses it as a traditional defense; however, today they remain at the Indian Museum, Kolkata. This shield is made of bamboo splits, collected from the local area, and represents the indigenous knowledge of the Naga community in warfare as well as that in craftsmanship. The Naga tribes primarily inhabit Nagaland, and the culture of being warriors leads them to use such equipment under professional battle gear.

The shield has an unusual construction in that its base is wider now compared to the top, thus allowing better protection for the lower body. The dorsal (outer) surface has animal hide and hair that is perhaps for both strength and symbolism. The inner surface has further woven bamboo to display the weaving skills of the Naga people.
