short description
The Khonds are an Adivasi tribe from Odisha and are forest-dwelling who, raising their forest-based livelihoods, have adapted various indigenous tools for use in different daily occupations. Among such important uses is the bamboo fish basket-an ingenious structure which has become mostly employed for the storage and transportation of fish. This conical basket, very finely split bamboo, is symbolic of tribal craftsmanship. The base is peculiar because of a hexagonal design, which helps the bhara perform well, even when placed on uneven ground. A small round hole at the top is its entrance for the fish, but its safety is ensured afterward. There is a handle for the basket made of bark fiber to help during fishing potteries or to travel products left by shallow waters.

It is that this basket has been made light, eco-friendly bamboo form of structure and bark fiber as to the harness material. The Khonds carry it along with the use of traditional nets or traps in case all fishes are captured inside until reaching home. Besides, it enwraps a simple all utility. Some life-style and wisdom for environmental conservation pass through such tools. Not these tools are imprints of self-sufficiency, of being in harmony with nature, but also-the very essence of the cultural identity intertwined with that of the Khonds.
