short description
The Bamboo Dao is the typical Angami and that hybrid cutting tool that the indigenous tribe lives mostly in Kohima, Nagaland, India. For the Angamis, a dao is no mere utility. It is a relic of self-reliance, agricultural life, and tribal identity. This dao has two major components. A polished bamboo handle and what looks like an iron blade that is almost straight are among the specimens. Blade, nearly rectangular in form. It is tightly inserted into the bamboo handle. Very Strong grip for active use. Sharp and straight, so it can be used for something like cutting bamboo, chopping firewood, clearing fields, and preparation of food. Top of blade also flat and straight which goes on to show the simplicity function of its design.

Traditionally, dao is hand-forged with particular qualities of iron smelted in local indigenous furnaces, while bamboo would be gotten from the plentiful forest inside Naga settlements. This combination of locally available materials named with time-honored crafting techniques indeed shows the depth of that environment to which the tribe has been attached and its way of tool making would describe it as completely organic. In Angami culture, the Bamboo Dao is a treasured object even today while it is preserved in the collection of Indian Museum, Kolkata, as a specimen of Naga material culture and craftsmanship.
