short description
The comb, considered a grooming tool by the Rabha tribe, is an artisan piece made by the indigenous people, primarily found in the northeastern state of Assam. The carefully made comb expresses in one relic the age-old relationship the tribe has toward natural materials , their bamboo culture. This is the whole of the comb, carved out of a single piece of bamboo, where the design is at once simple and appealing. Seven nicely sculpted teeth on one end are used to detangle and care for the hair, while the opposite end, forming the handle, is more than simple bamboo since it has a covering woven and stitched with cotton threads for grip and decoration. Threads twine beautifully on the handle in an innovative design, speaking of Rabha concern for details and decorative art.

The bamboo comb signifies not just a practical item but also a cultural artifact showing the habitat's sustainable way of life of the Rabha tribe. Bamboo is abundant in Assam and is used as a base material for countless items meant for tribal households, and if used for grooming, it serves as a testament to eco-friendly living.Such objects are part of the family heirlooms; made by artisans using traditional styles. The comb probably also implies the need of the tribe to remain clean and presentable, something very involved for the women of this tribe for whom hair care is very much a part of their daily routine.
