short description
The term "Baga" refers to the unique and traditional bamboo basket that is made and used by the Khond Tribe of Odisha. Traditional coupling of pieces made from split bamboo gives this basket a square bottom that tapers off gradually into an open mouth. The design is surgical in terms of structural stability but also eases operations while carrying loads. Baga is characterized by having long split bamboo strips attached alternatively around its upper part as well as its lower part. With all this additional support attached, the basket can now easily make itself withstand the heavy loads that accompany it while carrying harvested crops.

Such an arrangement is typically well-suited for hilly and wooded areas since most of the Khond live in those environments. The structure is suitable for carrying grains, tubers, and many such produce. The Baga acts as more than a tool; it is representative of Khond' sustainable life with nature. The raw material is bamboo, and this is available at casting friendly. Traditional techniques are also employed for weaving which are passed from generation to generation keeping the ancestral knowledge intact.
