short description
An Apatani comb from Arunachal Pradesh double sided wooden comb which is used to be set by the indigenous community is a tool that grooming could deliver optimal multiple functions. The comb, being unlike any of the decorative tribal artifacts, instead is the most important utility, which is bound into the daily lives of men and women of the Apatani tribe. The comb features two different types of teeth on either side; the longer and widely spaced ones are for detangling and grooming while the other side has the closely spaced teeth for finer styling and maintenance. The coating of the comb is flat on its top face, but on its underside, a slightly bruised texture is displayed centrally, probably due to hand carving. This comb is far from the charm of very polished handicrafts meant for commercial export but much flora and raw vision oriented to functional superiority.

Double-Sided Wooden Comb
description
The pointed end makes it versatile as it can be used for grooming purposes such as sectioning hair but may also be used as a basic tool in everyday activities. Tough with no elaborate finishes, this local comb stands worth more to the members of the tribe than to the handicraft market. A simple object, the Apatani wooden comb is a reflection of traditional ingenuity that shows how the tribe relied on locally available materials to cater to their customary needs. This everyday piece continues to retain significance in Apatani life, representing their ingenuity and affinity with nature
