short description
This is the traditional cap of the Mishmis of Arunachal Pradesh and bears witness to the local craftsmanship of the community in the use of natural material. Considering that the cap is made of animal hair, resourcefulness and closeness to nature are both embodied in the lifestyle of the community. The obvious purpose of the cap is for utility and cultural expression. It is provided with a rim made stronger by an additional leather strip, which is very well stitched to the main body. The extra piece of leather adds strength to the structure at the same time making it much more secure and comfortable for the wearer. It possibly has capabilities to protect from cold since it has a range of fitments, which are commonly found in hilly terrains like Arunachal Pradesh.

Worn by men most often while going about their daily routines or during a traditional gathering, the cap makes a statement of identity and utility. It pronounces the traditional methods of the Mishmi tribe in the weaving of animal hair along with leatherwork-both vital components of their material culture.
