short description
The Naga, inhabiting mainly the state of Nagaland in Northeast India, boast the art of bamboo craft. This bamboo craft resembles a beautiful cylinder, expressing entirely construction by the entire tribe and how far this tribe's affiliation with nature goes into acquiring the material. The bamboo vessel displays their ingenuity, as bamboo is a sustainable material to the Naga. Very thin strips of cane are cleverly used as handles, exhibiting Naga artistry in weaving and manipulation of cane into various commonplace utility objects. One side is closed. The mouth is open and provides functional and aesthetic appeal and is an indirect reference to the unique shape of the tapas, which assist in either pouring or handing the vessel while ornamenting it.

The painted designs along the outer surface of the bamboo vessel are an artistic exploration of the Naga tribe-it details the intricacy and colorful details of their designs that express the richness of their culture in artistic tradition. The decorated motifs would have deep symbolic ties with the beliefs of the tribe, their history, and the nature around them. Those designs would be considered stereotypical among the Naga, who pattern these decorations onto objects used for daily purposes, while some other tribals would use it purposefully for rituals. The bamboo vessel is very functional yet aesthetically pleasing and is therefore classed as a 'work of art' of the Naga, combining utility with cultural meaning, thus forming an indispensable aspect of the lives of these people.
